1. Using Exposure and Contrast to
    Artistic Effect

 

Now that we’ve discussed exposure in some detail in the “Understanding Exposure” article, it becomes apparent that some scenes are too high in contrast (the variance between light and dark) to allow the entire scene to be captured without loosing detail in either the highlights, the shadows, or both. But consider this…possibly we can use that high contrast artistically to create impressive and moving pictures. 

Three common ways to embrace Contrast, or possibly the lack of contrast, are discussed in the following sections: High Key Photography, Low Key Photography, and Silhouettes. All of which are ways to not only deal with contrast, but to embrace it!
